Pregnancy Stages

Month 1: The Beginning

You've just received the exciting news! This is the time for confirming your pregnancy and setting the stage for the journey ahead.
Pregnancy is not visible in sonography until 6-7 weeks after your last period and the first signs of hormonal changes start to show up.

Pregnancy Stages

Month 2: Embryo Formation

Your baby is now an embryo, and the early development of vital organs begins.
The heart, brain, and spine start to form, and you might experience early pregnancy symptoms.
These symptoms may include:
Tender, swollen breasts: This is due to the hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy.
Nausea and vomiting: This is also known as morning sickness, but it can occur at any time of day.
Fatigue: This is due to the increased demands of pregnancy on the body.
Frequent urination: This is due to the increased blood flow to the kidneys and the pressure of the growing uterus on the bladder.

Month 3: The First Trimester Milestone

The 12th week, the end of the first trimester, marks a significant milestone. Your baby is growing rapidly, and you might start showing.
This is the time for seeing your baby taking form of a "little human" in ultrasound scan, where you can also see and hear their heartbeat. All of the major organs and body systems are in place.

Month 4: Baby's Movements, a boy or a girl?

As your baby's muscles develop, they might start making tiny movements.
You may start to feel these early flutters, and it's time for the gender scan!..

Pregnancy Stages

Month 5: Rapid Growth

Your baby is growing quickly, and their facial features are becoming more distinct. They yawn, have hiccups and grimaces. They develop hair, fingernails, and toenails. The lungs begin to produce surfactant, a substance that helps the lungs to inflate after birth.

Pregnancy Stages

Month 6: Quickening and Viability

This is a significant time for your baby's viability outside the womb, and you'll feel more pronounced movements.
Your baby's senses are developing, and you can even hear their heartbeat with a stethoscope (or your partner can listen to the baby's heartbeat by piercing the bottom of a paper cup and placing it on your belly).

Month 7: Preparing for Arrival

Your baby's skin is less wrinkled, and they start gaining more weight.
The baby's lungs continue preparing for breathing, and you'll have more frequent prenatal visits.

Pregnancy Stages

Month 8: Pelvic engagement starts

Your baby's immune system is strengthening, and they're putting on layers of fat.
The baby's head starts moving downward to pelvic brim in preparation for birth.

Month 9: The Final Stretch

Your baby is ready for the world, and you're in the home stretch.
The baby's organs are fully developed, and they're just waiting for the signal to make their grand entrance.
At week 40, you've reached full term! Your baby is considered "full-term" and is just about ready for birth.
During this month, the baby continues to grow, and you'll have more prenatal visits to monitor their health and position.
